27 killed, 39 injured as Kenyan dam bursts after heavy rains

After weeks of torrential rainfall, Patel Dam in Subukia, Nakuru County, nearly 120 miles northwest of  Nairobi, Kenya has burst its bank causing a lot of destruction. According to reports, at least 27 people have died and many other hospitalised.

Local radio station aired a report about the incident and fatality. According to Regional police chief Gideon Kibunja, "27 people are dead and 40 others in need of urgent medical aid."

 

 

Kenya Red Cross wrote on its Twitter account, "39 people taken to hospital last night after Patel Dam in Subukia, Nakuru County, broke its banks affecting nearby villages. Search and rescue efforts by County Government, Kenya #RedCross Society and @Ems_Kenya ongoing."

Lee Kinyajui, governor of Nakuru county said on his Twitter handle that water has caused a lot of destruction to both life and property.
