The cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) is gaining ground ahead of July 25 elections and in an interview with a popular newspaper, he said that the former Prime Minister and convict in Avenfield corruption Nawaz Sharif has tried to build a good relationship with India.

The former Pak supremo Nawaz Sharif and daughter Maryam have been found guilty in a corruption case that involves the purchase of four luxury apartments in London's Avenfield House.

While Nawaz Sharif has been sentenced to 10 years in jail, daughter Maryam to seven years.

It is the aggressive anti-Pakistan posture that has led to a disturbance between the two countries. He believes that the PM office is a very complex political position," Sharif tried his best to mend relations with India."

Recalling that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Pakistan in December 2015 and things started taking a good shape but after the terror attacks in January 2016 by Pak militants in Pathankot and Uri attack in September relationship strained.

He also said that for more than 33 years the army has ruled Pakistan, "We have had a military influence on politics in Pakistan because we have had the worst political governments. I am not saying it is justified but where there is a vacuum, something will fill it."
