Woman weeps, begs as bulldozer turns her home to dust in Jahangirpuri; watch heartbreaking video

Life has not been easy for people living in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area since Saturday, when communal clashes erupted between two religious groups during a Hanuman Jayanti procession. visible tension and heavy police deployment have become regular residents in the neighbourhood.

On Wednesday, things exacerbated for the people of Jahangirpuri when bulldozers came into the area to destroy shops and houses that had purportedly been illegally built. The North Delhi Municipal Corporation had put out the anti-encroachment drive and requested police deployment the previous day, after Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta demanded that the 'illegal' houses of those accused in Saturday's violence be demolished.


In a heartbreaking video shared on Twitter, a woman can be seen weeping and begging for the bulldozer to stop as it sweeps up what appear to be her belongings and turns them to dust.

 

Big story so far:

1) A communal clash broke out between two groups in Delhi's Jahangirpuri during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on Saturday. Nine people were injured.

2) The Delhi Police launched an investigation and have arrested 25 adults and two juveniles in the case so far.

3) In the meantime, the Delhi BJP claimed those accused in the Jahangirpuri violence were living in illegal constructions and demanded that they be demolished.

4) The North Delhi Municipal Corporation launched an anti-encroachment drive on Wednesday. The Supreme Court has halted the demolition for now and will hear the matter on Thursday.
