As the tension between India and Pakistan has receded and Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman is to be released today, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has taken a jibe at PM Narendra Modi in a tweet.

Sidhu has indirectly alleged in his tweet that BJP and PM Modi are using the war hysteria as a political weapon ahead of the election, to win the Lok Sabha polls by playing the emotional card.

In his tweet, Sidhu wrote, "War is the refuge for a failed government, how many more innocent lives and jawans will you sacrifice for your hollow political motives.”

Adding a Hindi quote in his tweet, Sidhu wrote, "जिस जंग में बादशाह की जान को खतरा न हो, उसे जंग नही राजनीति कहते है। ~ चाणक्य (Chanakya)"

Sidhu has been at the centre of controversy since he visited Pakistan in the oath taking ceremony of current PM Imran Khan and hugged the Pakistan’s Army chief General Bajwa.

Yesterday, when PM Imran Khan announced the release of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, Sidhu tweeted , “Every noble act makes a way for itself... your goodwill gesture is ‘a cup of joy’ for a billion people, a nation rejoices...

I am overjoyed for his parents and loved ones.”

In a press conference, AICC spokesperson Manish Tewari had said, “There is a time to act and there is a time to talk. Dialogue can only take place when the atmosphere is conductive for dialogue. The current atmosphere is not conducive for dialogue. If Sidhu has an opinion, it is his personal opinion and not that of Congress.”
