The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district on September 12.

Several incidents of phone battery explosions have been reported in the past, but the latest one is probably the most horrific incident.

In a tragic incident, an eight-month-old infant died after suffering severe injuries as the mobile phone kept next to her exploded. The mobile phone was on charging mode at the time of the incident.

The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district on September 12. As per reports, the keypad phone already had a swollen battery and it was plugged into a switch connected to a solar panel. The family bought the keypad phone around six months ago.

At the time of the explosion, newborn Neha was alone in the room. Kusum Kashyap, the mother of the infant, hurried in after hearing a loud noise and her other daughter’s cry for help.

The infant, Neha, was taken to the hospital but succumbed to major burn injuries while undergoing treatment.

As per the police, it was a sheer case of negligence by the parents of the deceased. No complaint has been filed so far.

The infant's father, Suneel Kumar Kashyap is a labourer and the family lives in an under-construction house without a power connection. The family uses a solar plate and a battery for lighting and charging mobile phones.

At the time of the incident, Suneel Kashyap had gone to work while his wife was at home with their two daughters.

In the afternoon, Kusum put the infant on a separate charpoys to sleep. She kept the phone for charging near the baby and left the room.

"I was speaking to a neighbour when I heard a loud noise and my elder daughter Nandini shouting for help. I rushed to the room and saw the charpoy was ablaze because of the mobile explosion. Neha was badly burnt,” she said.

Harveer Singh, SHO of Faridpur police station, informed that the body of the infant was handed to the family after due procedure.
