UP: 16-year-old girl killed herself after being gangraped in Ghazipur

In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl ended her life after being gangraped in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to media reports, the minor girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped by her neighbour and his friend on June 15.

The girl killed herself by hanging from the ceiling of her hut on
Thursday morning.

The incident took place within a territorial jurisdiction of Kasimabad Police Station.

The entire village got depressed after a girl’s suicide. Infuriated villagers gathered in the village and demand arrest of the accused.

After this, the police came to response and Ghazipur SP Om Prakash Singh arrived at the spot to control the situation.

SP gave assurance villagers to take strict action against the two accused.

According to the police, the now-deceased minor girl was abducted by neigbour, identified as Munish Chauhan, when she had gone to collect water from a handpump near her hut.

Chauhan took the minor girl to a truck that belonged to one Ghanshyam Yadav.

According to reports in The Times of India, both accused raped the girl inside the vehicle. When a girl came back home, she revealed her ordeal to her family members.

The following morning, the victim’s father went to Chauhan’s house to confront him but Chauhan’s family threatened him.

The police booked the two accused under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

However, Yadav has been arrested but Chauhan is still at large.

On Thursday morning, the investigating officials had visited the victim’s house to take her for medical examination at a state-run hospital.

After a few minutes, the police came to know that the girl had committed suicide. After which locals gathered at her residence and staged a protest against the rape of the minor girl.
