Thane minor girl kidnapped, raped by 40-year-old man; accused nabbed

A fourteen-year-old tribal girl was allegedly abducted and raped by a 40-year-old man in Maharashtra’s Thane. Police said on Thursday. The unfortunate incident happened on Sunday in Bhiwandi taluka and the accused was taken into police custody on Wednesday, police added.

The family of the victim is a native of neighbouring Palghar and works at a brick kiln. A family acquaintance had taken the victim to his house for domestic work, the police said.


Nevertheless, when the two reached near Angaon village, the accused took the victim girl to a lodge where he allegedly raped her, an official from Bhiwandi taluka police station said.

When the victim tried to sound an alarm, the accused thrashed her and also warned her of dire reprecussion if she told anyone about the crime. The official said, adding that the man later reached the girl to her parents' house.

Following this, the victim told her parents about the horrifying experience, who then registered a police complaint with the help of an NGO on Tuesday, he said.

The accused was taken into police custody on Wednesday and was charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the official said.

The 14-year-old victim was sent to a children's home in Bhiwandi, police added.
