A distressing incident has been reported in Mohali district of Punjab where a six-month-old puppy was allegedly brutally killed by a man.

The accused killed the canine after spreading the rumours that he has been affected with rabies.

The appalling incident took place within the territorial limits of the Sohana police.

A local has approached the police and registered a complaint against the accused Gurpreet Singh.

In the complaint, it was registered that the puppy used to reside in the complainant house. The accused used to collect household garbage in the area.

On Wednesday, Gurpreet spread the rumour that the puppy had rabies infection.

“After spreading the rumour, the accused took an iron pipe and hit the puppy in the head and killed it,” India Express reported.

After killing the puppy, he kept the carcass in his cart and took it for burying.

The Sohana police have booked the accused Gurpreet under IPC sections 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle), 428 (whoever commits mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming or rendering useless any animal or animals of the value of ten rupees) and 201 (destruction of evidence).

Crimes against animals have been increased and we should be ashamed of ourselves that we remain silent after seeing such cruelty against animals.
