Pune: Prisoner out on ‘coronavirus bail’ found bludgeoned to death near railway station

A man was found beaten to death on a footpath near the Pune railway station on Satruday.

The man identified as Munna Ishwar Chavan, 23, a resident of Bendre Gali in Shastrinagar, Georai, in Beed. The police are searching for a suspect in the case.


Chavan was found on the footpath near Jehangir hospital, with injuries on his forehead, above his eyebrows, as per the police. He is suspected to have been thrashed to death with a heavy entity.

He was found to have been recently released from the Yerawada Central Jail in the measure taken by the authorities to decongest, due to the coronavirus. The police recovered a letter granting him bail of 45 days.

He was in jail for a theft case filed at Pune railway police station at Bund garden police station. Police inspector Digambar Shinde of Bund garden police station is probing the case.

A case under section 302 of the IPC was filed at Bund garden station against an unidentified person.
