As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the nation, there appear to be no end miseries. In a fresh incident, a 38-year-old man killed his wife and son ahead of committing suicide.

The incident happened in Pune’s Kadam Vasti area on Sunday. The man worked as tempo driver and was frustrated over loss of employment, police said.

The dead have been identified as Hanumant Shinde, wife Pradnya and son Shivtej, as per a report in Indian Express. The couple also had a daughter who was older than Shivtej.

As maintained by police, the case was registered in local police by Hanumant's father Daryappa Shinde who lives along with the family.

"The father left the house for some work. The matter came to light after he returned home following which the police were informed. Based on the FIR by Hanumant's father, it seems that the deceased, who used to work as a driver on goods carrying tempos, was out of work for some time. Further probe is underway in the case." the report quoted Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) as saying.

Police stated that initial investigation suggests that the man first strangulated his wife and later murdered his son by slitting his throat. Later, Hanumant ended his life by hanging himself, said Senior inspector Rajendra Mokashi from Loni Kalbhor police station.
