Panvel Railway Station: Woman gives birth to child at 'One-Rupee Clinic'

Woman gives birth to child at 'One-Rupee Clinic'

A woman who was traveling from Nerul to Panvel, gave birth to a child at Panvel railway station earlier this morning, gave birth to a child at the Panvel railway station on Thursday morning. The incident took place around 6 am.


The woman was able to give birth to the child with the help of a doctor at the Railway's One Rupee Clinic and the railway staffers.


The delivery was supervised by Dr Vishal and attended by the deputy station manager AJ Khan and Budhiprakash Meena, the deputy station manager (commercial).

Later, the mother and the newborn baby were shifted to a hospital for further treatment and the duo is healthy.

To help train passengers in case of medical emergency, Central Railways have established round-the-clock emergency medical room 'One Rupee Clinics' different stations, where doctors provide consultation at a meager charge of Re 1. These clinics also timely medical assistance to rail accident victims.

Earlier on October 10, a 29-year-old woman travelling to Mumbai in a train gave birth to a baby boy in a clinic at Thane railway station. 

The woman had started having labour pains while she was heading from Karjat to Parel in neighbouring Mumbai in a suburban train. The railway officials immediately informed the doctor in-charge at the 'One-Rupee Clinic', located on platform no. 2 of the Thane station.

The woman was then rushed to the clinic where she delivered the child around 6.30 am, said Dr Rahul Ghule, CEO of the clinic, which is run by a private body.
