A man allegedly raped a mentally challenged teen at an isolated street in Mumbai’s Tardeo in October 2018. Soon after he committed the crime the man fled to Nepal and managed to escape from arrest, the accused was arrested from Patna last week.

The accused identified as Manoj Saha. The police said that a charge sheet will be filed soon. An officer stated that the charge of gang-rape will be dropped against the accused as the teen later changed her initial statement that 3 men had gang-raped her.

On the day of the crime, the girl had an argument with her sisters and left the house. The teen took a train to Mumbai Central and slept on a road at Tardeo. During this time, the accused allegedly raped her.

The next day, the girl came back home and her family was quick to notice a change in her attitude. The girl opened up to her father about the sexual assault and narrated her ordeal. The teen, who is now 20-years-old, had earlier alleged that she was raped by 3 men.

In accordance with the victim’s statement, a case of gang-rape was filed by the police, The Indian Express reported. The police began an investigation and identified the accused as Manoj Saha, who fled to Bihar’s Sitamarhi district. Before a police team could reach Saha, he fled to Nepal.

The accused stopped using his phone but remained in touch with a friend who would inform him about the status of the matter. Meanwhile, he also returned from Nepal to Bihar. Not long ago, Saha called his friend and unintentionally disclosed his whereabouts. After which, he was arrested by the police.
