New Delhi gangrape case.

In a shocking incident reported from the national capital, two hawkers have been taken into police custody for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl near Tilak Bridge in New Delhi, police said. The two accused, on the pretext of boarding the girl on a train, took her to an isolated area and raped her.

As maintained by the police, the incident happened near bushes along the railway tracks near Tilak Bridge in the early hours of Monday. The girl, who hails from Gujarat, had come to the station with a friend, Deepak, who left her after an argument.

"A case has been registered under section 376D (Gang rape) of the Indian Penal Code and both the accused have been arrested," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Harendra Kumar Singh said.

The shocking incident materialized when the girl requested the accused to give her their mobile phone to call at her home. When the girl asked the hawkers to help her catch a train, they took her to some bushes saying that the train would be available from some other station.

"The accused took the girl along the track near Tilak Bridge, where both of them raped her," police officer said.

According to police, the victim girl had visited Chandigarh last month to meet her friend. They then planned to visit his village in Uttar Pradesh on Friday and got to Lucknow.

"They came to Delhi on Sunday and were supposed to board the Jamnagar Express around 9.40 pm but missed it, said police. The two got into an argument and the man left her at the station. She was looking for him at the bridge when the accused met her," police said.

The girl was taken back to Ajmeri Gate side by the accused in the early hours of Monday upon her request. Meanwhile, her friend Deepak also came at the location, police said.

"Hardeep and Rahul scolded Deepak for abandoning her. An argument followed between them and the patrolling staff spotted this and enquired the matter and subsequently brought all of them to the police station," police said.

The accused and the minor victim were sent for medical analysis. A forensic team gathered samples from the crime spot and the matter is being investigated.
