Karnataka shocker: Man slits wife’s throat in court after withdrawing divorce plea

In a shocking incident coming in from Karnataka, a man slit his wife’s throat on the premises of a local court in the Hassan district on Saturday. After killing his wife, the man also made an attempt to assault his baby, however bystanders stepped in and saved the child.

The shocking incident took place on the premises of Holenarasipura court, which was adjudicate on the couple’s divorce case. The now deceased was identified as Chaitra, a native of Thattekere village, and the accused was identified as Shivakumar from Holenarasipura taluk.


The couple had been married for seven years and had a daughter. On Saturday, a Lok Adalat asked the couple to withdraw their divorce plea and resolve the matter amicably, keeping their child’s future in mind. The counselling lasted for about an hour, after which both of them withdrew the divorce petitions and agreed to live together for the sake of the child.

However, as soon as they withdrew their pleas, Chitra went to the washroom on the premises of the court, Shivakumar went behind her and attacked her with a knife and cut her throat. Following that, he even tried to kill his baby girl, but the people nearby stopped him and handed him over to the police.

The woman was seriously injured and was rushed to Hassan District Hospital by an ambulance from Holenarsipura, but she succumbed to her injuries.
