Two days after a 33-year-old woman was stabbed 17 times in the national capital’s Malviya Nagar, her husband and two others hired by him were taken into police custody on Saturday in connection with the killing, police said.

Police put a name to the accused as Naveen Kumar Gullaiya, aged 36, as maintained by cops, the accused decided to murder his wife with the help of contract killers after she found out about his extramarital relationship with another woman causing regular argument between the couple.

According to the police, the incident occurred in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on 18th Novenber, and they were notified by the hospital that a woman with stab injuries was brought there by her husband and was soon declared dead.

The victim, identified as Reena, was stabbed at least 17 times, police said, further adding that the three accused, including her husband and contract killers Rahul and Sonu, have been taken into police custody.

Furthermore, police stated that when the victim’s husband was interrogated, he misguided the police at first saying that he and his son had gone to see a doctor and the victim was all by her self at home. Following the doctor’s visit and some shoping, the accused left his son at a salon and went to his office at Kalkaji, DCP South Benita Mary Jaiker said.

Later, Gullaiya called one of his staff to drop his son at his residence after his haricut. At around 4:45 pm, he received a phone call from his staff saying that his wife was lying in a pool of blood with stab injuries. He than immediately rushed to his house and took his wife to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

As per the police, a case was filed and upon investigation, police said they recovered CCTV footage in which two men were seen going inside victim’s residence and then three people were seen exiting after a while.

The path of those three from the crime scene was found up to Kalkaji’s Pamposh Enclave. The husband became a suspect when his call records were scanned and it was discovered that he regularly called a woman based in Govindpuri with whom he was in an illicit affair for the past year or two, police said.

The call records also showed that Gullaiya got a whatsapp call from Rahul. Also, another mobile was recovered from Gullaiya’s car that had made many calls to Rahul and Rs 50,000 was to be given to him as a payment for the killing.

When the victim’s husband was quizzed with proof, he admitted that he was having an affair with another lady for the last one and a half year and his wife came to know four months ago. Since then, she began fighting with hime and would often keep an eye on his location through video calls.

This infuriated the accused so much that he decided to kill his wife and his lover also gave her nod. He then hired the two contract killers and fixed a deal for 5 lakh which would be paid after the work was done. The accused left the house with his son to visit a doctor on Thursday while his wife was taking rest.

While leaving the house, he locked the main entrance and handed the key to Rahul who along with his abettor entered the apartment and brutally killed Reena, police said. The two killers were instantly nabbed while efforts are underway to arrest the third accused.

The murder weapon used during the crime has also been recovered, DCP said.
