Haryana: Man kills father’s unmarried sister over ancestral property

A gruesome case of murder has come to light from Haryana’s Ambala district, where a 51-year-old woman was allegedly strangulated to death by her brother’s son over family ancestral property.

As maintained by the police, the victim, was identified as Surinder Kaur, an unmarried woman who was locally known for performing religious task diligently. On 9th June, Surinder had gone to take part in a religious ceremony in Mathedi area after which she went missing. Following the disappearance, her brother Amarjeet registered a missing complaint with the police.


The family of the victim have a suspicion that Amarjeet’s son, Gurpreet alias Preet, might be behind her disappearance as he had his eye set on her share of ancestral property. On the basis of the family’s suspicion, the police interrogated Gurpreet and he confessed to having killed Kaur and buried her body in their ancestral land.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, The victim’s family said she had four sisters, one of whom had died, and a brother, Amarjeet. The siblings’ father had left behind 21 acres to be divided among only the sisters. As Surinder was unmarried and had no heir, Gurpreet wanted to grab her share.

As maintained by the police, the victim requested Gurpreet to drop her at Mathedi, where she had to take part in a religious ceremony. Gurpreet and his friend, identified as Kaala, took her in a car and throttled her to death. After that, they buried her dead body in the ancestral land. The accused gave the victim’s mobile phone to the receptionist of a hotel in Kurukshetra, in a bid to mislead the cops.

However, Gurpreet has been taken into police custody, while efforts are underway to arrest his friend. Police have added the murder charge in the missing person’s case lodged at Naggal police station.
