Gujarat Horror: 14-year-old girl raped, strangled to death

In an incident of crime reported from Gujarat’s Bharuch, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and strangled to death by an unknown individual near Amod town, police said Wednesday.

The dead body of the victim was found on the outskirts of Sarbhan village in the district's Amod taluka on Monday, an official from Amod police station said.

An autopsy was carried out at Bharuch civil hospital and the report established that the girl had been raped before being strangled, he said.

The minor victim had gone out of her house on Monday afternoon in order to collect firewood and did not get back till evening. She was found dead on a cotton farm, he said.

According to officials, "A case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against an unidentified accused".

Senior police officials went to the crime location and separate teams from the local crime branch, special operations group and others have been set-up to arrest the accused, he added.

In another incident of crime, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a garbage collector in Gujarat's Surat city on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Santosh Chauhan, has been taken into police custody.

As maintained by cops, the accused, who was allegedly drunk, had gone to collect thrash outside a public toilet in Baroda Prestige area which fall under the jurisdiction of Varachha police station, when he saw the minor.

The accused lured the minor near the public toilet on the pretext of giving her sweets. He then allegedly committed the crime by forcing himself on her.

The victim’s cry for help were heard by the people near by, following which the accused was caught and handed over to the police. The minor also narrated her ordeal to the mother, who then filed an FIR.
