In what appeared to be a shocking case, a 23-year-old youth was purportedly thrashed to death by his friend as he couldn’t give back Rs 150 borrowed by him in South Mumbai on Saturday. Police have taken the accused into custody who was identified as Bhushan Shaikh alias Chulbul.

The Incident happened within the jurisdiction of Sewri Police. The dead was identified as Riyaz Rafiq Shaikh. As per the police, he and the accused were friends. They worked as daily wagers at Bhaucha Dhakka fish market and were resident of Sewri’s Malet Bunder area. According to the police, Chulbul had lent Rs 150 to Riyaz just before the lockdown.

Earlier, Chulbul was allegedly beaten up and verbally abused by Riyaz when he asked Riyaz to return the money. Chulbul again went to him on Saturday and asked him for his money. Tempers flared up and an altercation started between the two friends. Chulbul picked up a stone and assaulted Riyaz with it, according to a report of Bangalore Mirror.

An investigating official said that Riyaz was rushed to a hospital for treatment, however, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctors there. Later, police took Chulbul into custody from a boat in Ferry Warf. In the time of interrogation, he confessed to having murdered Riyaz. He has been booked under Sector 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In a different incident, two youths allegedly refused to give a small sum of Rs 5 to a vendor after having pakoras and instead fired two bullets at the latter and his brother when they asked for money. The incident happened in Bihar’s Buxar district in February this year.
