Chhattisgarh Murder.

In what was a hair-raising incident reported from Chhattisgarh, a 30-year-old woman allegedly hacked her husband to death using an axe in Durg district as she was irked about his frequent taunts about her dark complexion, police said on Tuesday.

Earlier, the police arrested Sangeeta Sonwani for allegedly murdering her husband Anant Sonwani, aged 40, in Amleshwar village on Sunday, said Devansh Rathore, sub-divisional officer of police (Patan area).

As maintained in the preliminary investigation, the victim used to call his wife ugly and frequently made fun of her over her dark skin. The couple had quarrelled on the issue many times in the past, he said.

The couple got into a heated argument on Sunday and in a fit of anger, the accused woman, identified as Sangeeta allegedly attacked her husband with the axe kept in the house and killed him on the spot, the official said.

The accused woman also allegedly chopped off the victim's genitals, he said.

The accused attempted to misguide the villagers the next morning by saying that someone had murdered her husband, but later admitted to have committed the offence during police interrogation, the official said.

The victim had tied the knot with the accused after the death of his first wife, he said.

The woman has been charged under section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code [IPC] and a further investigation into the matter is underway, Rathore said.
