Chennai: 19-year-old hacked 30 times by assailant with sickle

In a horrifying incident reported from Chennai, a man was brutally hacked 30 times by an assailant armed with a sickle on the night of 18th May. Now, CCTV footage of the gruesome incident has surfaced, and it has gone viral.

The video of the incident shows the 3 men surrounding the victim at night, in Chennai’s Korukupet area on May 18.


The visual shows one of the assailants hacking the victim using a sickle around 30 times. While this is taking place, a man walks past them without taking heed of the murder.

Police, after conducting a probe, identified the victim as 19-year-old Rahul from Chennai’s Harinarayanapuram, Old Washermenpet area.

On the basis of the CCTV footage, police took Gowrishankar, Saravanan and Rahman into their custody.

As maintained by police sources, the 19-year-old victim had taken Rs 20,000 from the perpetrators to buy drugs. However, he did not live up to his commitment. Infuriated by this, the gang decided to end Rahul’s life.

CCTV footage from near where the murder took place shows Rahul being chased by the two men while one of them hacked Rahul 30 times. This is the second murder that was caught on camera in Tamil Nadu’s capital city last week.

On the same day of 18th May, Arumugam, a financier, was hacked to death in Aminjikarai by four men in broad daylight. This horrific incident was also recorded on CCTV.
