Bengaluru: Man shares picture of COVID-19 girl patient as his WhatsApp status photo; arrested

In a piece of shocking news has come to light from Karnataka where a 24-year-old man has been arrested for posting a picture of the coronavirus positive girl as his WhatsApp status, police said.

The man has been identified as Anil Rathod, who posted the picture of a girl student with a derogatory caption, “Bad News Students got Positive.”


Police arrested Rathod in Vijayapura district in Karnataka.

By sharing the photo of the girl, the man tried to create fear among the masses and intentionally defamed by making her photo go viral, the police said in a statement.

According to the police, it is an offensive to reveal the identity of the coronavirus patients by sharing their pictures on the public platform or social media.

The 24-year-old man has been booked under for spreading rumours and causing panic, they said.

According to reports, at least 18 death cases due to coronavirus have been reported so far in Karnataka.

While in India, 27,892 confirmed cases for COVID-19 have been recorded and the death toll climbed to 872.
