In a recent development coming in from Karnataka’s Bengaluru, A man, who was sent behind bars for seven years for throwing acid at a woman in 2005, was taken into police custody from Bengaluru for allegedly raping a woman at her residence in Delhi in December 2021. The 43-year-old man was apprehended by Delhi’s outer district police.

As maintained by the victim her brother-in-law raped her at her Delhi home on December 13, 2021, after threatening to attack her husband and children with acid. The victim alleged that the man filmed the entire episode and intimidated her to upload it on social media.

Earlier in 2005, the man was sent to jail for seven years for throwing acid on the woman in Kanpur. However, after serving his jail term, the accused man managed to find the woman in Delhi by asking his acquaintances in Kanpur and raped her.

DCP Sameer Sharma was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, "After raping the woman, the man went absconding. The woman was scared of the man's threats and filed a complaint in March, three months after the act. A case was registered for rape and criminal intimidation under Indian Penal Code’s sections 376 and 506 on March 21."

A special staff team was set-up in order to trace and arrest the accused. A police team raided his hideouts in Delhi and also looked for him in Kanpur but were unable to find him because his cellphone was switched off.

Through the medium of electronic surveillance, the man was finally traced in Bengaluru. Police said that a three-member team was sent to the city last week and the man was brought back to Delhi.

According to police, they are also making an effort to find out if the man was involved in other crimes before or after the acid attack in 2005.
