The Delhi BJP on October 7 unleashed a barrage of jibes at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and demanded that Arvind Kejriwal sack his minister Rajendra Pal Gautam for allegedly disrespecting and insulting Hindu gods.

The BJP leaders started attacking the AAP party after minister Rajendra Pal Gautam attended a mass conversion gathering at Karol Bagh on Dussehra. At the event, participants took a pledge not to worship Hindu gods.

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said that Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam showed disrespect towards Hindu gods.

"This is not an isolated incident, it is in the character of the AAP to insult and disrespect Hindu gods and goddesses." We demand Kejriwal immediately expel Gautam from his Cabinet," Gupta said.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also demanded the minister’s resignation and said that his action could lead to animosity between the Hindu and Buddhist communities.

Shehzad Poonawala, the BJP spokesperson, said that this shows the true anti-Hindu face of the AAM Adami Party. “This is not a ‘sanyog’ (coincidence) or a one-off incident of abusing Hindus or inciting riots- we have seen how Kejriwal opposed Ram Mandir, how Sisodia did the same, how they backed Delhi riots mastermind Tahir Hussain! Will they sack Rajendra Pal?”, he said.

Minister Gautam attended an event where vows were reportedly taken by several people converting to Buddhism to follow the teachings of Lord Buddha and give up worship of Hindu deities.
