Weather Forecast: Flash floods hit Himachal Pradesh, schools shut in MP; list of states where heavy rainfall is likely

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a red alert in parts of Madhya Pradesh and orange alert in parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Here’s a list of states where heavy showers are expected.


Parts of Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and other parts of the country saw flood-like situation following incessant rainfall on Monday. In the meantime, schools in some districts of Madhya Pradesh will remain shut on Tuesday because of heavy rains. Two people also went missing after flash floods were reported in Himachal’s Solang Nala.

In the midst of all this, the weather agency has predicted more rainfall in parts of the country.

Maharashtra:

Heavy Rainfall is to be expected in Raigad and Pune, while thunderstorms and lightning have been forecasted in Yavatmal, Washim, Wardha Nagpur, Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Buldhana, Bhandara, Amravati and Akola.

Moderate rainfall is expected in other parts including Mumbai, Jalgaon, Nasik and Satara.

Madhya Pradesh:

The weather department has issued a red alert in Khargone, Bruhanpur and Betul. An orange alert has been sounded in Alirapur, Harda, Hoshangabad, Chhindwara, Seoni, Jabalpur and Sagar. Apart of these districts, heavy rain is also forecasted in areas including Satna, Katni, Rajgarh, Vidisha and Khandwa.

Amid heavy rainfall, all the schools will remain shut in Narmadapuram and Bhopal on Tuesday, said district collectors.

Himachal Pradesh:

Heavy rainfall is to be expected in Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Kullu, Shimla and Sirmaur. Other districts including Una, Bilaspur, Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur might also see heavy showers.

Himachal has been witnessing landslides and flash floods for the past few day. Not long ago, two people went missing after flash floods were reported in the Solang Nala.

Around 100 people, which includes NDRF, Police, Fire Brigade, Team of Administration and volunteers deployed for rescue operation, present, ANI quoted SDM Manali Surender Thakur as saying.

Rajasthan:

Severe water logging was seen in Rajasthan’s Bundi on Monday. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is expected in Pali, Sirohi, Udaipur, Nagaur, Baran and Dausa.

Odisha:

As maintained by the news agency ANI, the turbulent flow of water in the Hati river has prompted a flood like situation in the Junagarh area in the Kalahandi districtt. Water level in the Devi river also increased following incessant rainfall. However, no alerts have been put out in the state.

Chhattisgarh:

The weather agency has predicted heavy rainfall in Kabirdhan, Rajnandgaon, Raipur, Bilaspur and Bemetara. A family of five lost the lives after a wall of their house collapsed in Kanker, following heavy rainfall. The incident took place in a village in the Pakhanjur area.
