Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated every year on Ashtami of Krishna Paksha and this year, Lord Krishna birthday is celebrated on 24th August (Saturday). On this special day, people observe fast, chants mantras, bhajans to seek the blessings of Lord Krishna.

According to the Gregorian calendar, Janmashtami is usually fallen in the month of August or September. Krishna Janmashtami is also popularly called as Krishnashtami, Gokulashtami, Srikrishna Jayanti, Ashtami Rohini.

As per the Hindu belief, Lord Krishna was born in Rohini nakshatra which is on August 24.

This year, the confusion was over the date of Janmashtami, because of which many people celebrated Janmashtami on 23rd August also.

According to the Hindu calendar, Ashtami has begun from 8:09 am on Friday and will end on Saturday at 8:23 am.
