Christmas 2021: History, importance and significance of this day

In a few days time people will commemorate the eagerly awaited festival Christmas. Year after year on December 25, people from around the world observe the last festival of the year, by listening to carols, enjoying mouth-watering delicacies and trading gifts. The day marks the birth of Jesus Christ. On this day, people spread joy, spend time with family and close ones.

History and significance of Christmas:


Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ. Christ was born in Bethlehem to Joseph and Mary. Mothery Marry was engaged to Joseph when she conceived through the Holy Spirit. Though the month and the date of Christ's birth are unknown, in the early-to-fourth century, the Western Christian Church declared December 25 as Christmas. Christmas was declared as a federal holiday in 1870 by the US.

Importance:

Christmas is celebrated as one of the biggest festivals which is observed throughout the world. Christmas is celebrated from Christmas eve and goes on till December 26. The birth of Christ signifies the paramount importance for Christians as they believed that God had sent his son on earth to redeem the people of the world from their wrongdoings.

Common rituals:

According to common rituals in Christmas, people in small groups go door to door singing hymns. People adorn their houses with wreaths, candy canes, holly, mistletoe, stockings. And a Christmas tree. People also attend midnight mass.

Santa Claus:

Before we forget the legendary Santa Claus during Christmas. Children are told Santa, lives in the North Pole, and on the Christmas eve, he visits the house of people to hand out gifts. Kids are told to leave stockings to receive gifts before going to bed.
