Chhath Puja 2021: Check arghya time, puja vidhi, shubh muhurat and day-wise schedule

Chhath Puja 2021: After the Diwali celebrations, it’s time to celebrate another festival, Chhath Puja. The festival is celebrated six days after Diwali. This year, the festival is starting on November 8th and will continue till November 11.

It is one of the major festivals of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh. This festival is mainly dedicated to Lord Surya. On this day, women keep fast to seek blessings for the health and prosperity of the family.


The four-day-long festival begins with Nahay Khay on Shukla Paksha Chaturthi Tithi of Kartik month while ends with Usha Arghya on Saptami Tithi.

To celebrate the auspicious festival, it is important to know the shubh muhurat, day-wise schedule, and puja vidhi to perform Chhath puja:

Day 1: Nahay Khay

The first day of Chhath puja is known as Nahay Khay. On this day, women observe fast and take a holy dip in Ganga. This year, it will begin on November 8. On this day, the sunrise will be at 6.42 am and the sunset will be at 5:27 pm.

Day 2: Kharna

Chhath puja’s second day is known as Kharna. On this day, devotees keep a day-long fast from sunrise to sunset without drinking water. The fast is broken only after offering food to the Sun and Chhath Mata. Women begin their Chhath fast after having Prasad.

Kharna will be celebrated on November 9. The sunset and sunrise timings for 06:39 AM and 05:30 PM respectively.

Day 3: Sandhya Arghya

Sandhya Arghya is the third day of the Chhath puja. On this day, devotees observe a full-day fast without taking water. Arghya is offered to the setting Sun. It is the only day of Chhath Puja when women offer Arghya to the setting Sun. This year, Sandhya Arghya will be observed on November 10. The sunrise will take place at 06:40 AM while the timing for sunset is 05:30 PM.

The Chhath fasting continues throughout the night and the Parana is done on the next day after sunrise.

Day 4: Usha Arghya

It is the fourth and final of the Chhath Puja. On Usha Arghya day, devotees offer Arghya to the rising Sun. On this day, people break their 36 hours long fast after offering Arghya to the Sun.

This year, the Usha Arghya will be celebrated on November 11. The sunrise and sunset timings are predicted to be 06:41 AM and 05:29 PM respectively.
