Phillipine president Rodrigo Duterte offers 'warm congratulations' to Donald Trump
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, on 9 November, called US president-elect Donald Trump and offered him "warm congratulations" on winning the US presidential elections.
According to media reports, Duterte has said that he looks forward to working with Trump to better the relations.
Rodrigo Duterte, who previously had expressed outrage with the Obama administration and repeatedly threatened to end one of Washington's most important Asian alliances, hailed the success of US democratic system, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said, reported a daily.
An international news agency quoted Martin Andanar as saying, "Looking forward to working with the incoming administration for enhanced Philippines-US relations anchored on mutual respect, mutual benefit and shared commitment to democratic ideals and the rule of law."
