Pakistan: Elderly Hindu man beaten by cops for eating before iftar

A 90-year-old Hindu man was beaten by a police constable in Pakistan for eating before iftar during the month of Ramadan, on Friday.

According to Pakistani media, the incident happened when Gokal Das was seen eating biryani in the afternoon. Police constable Ali Hassan and his brother tortured and beat him up for eating in public during Ramadan.

The victim, Gokal Das is a resident of Hayat Pitafi, a remote village in Ghotki district in Pakistan.

After the incident, cops were compelled to arrest Ali as a social media campaign was launched condemning the incident and seeking justice for the old man. AD Khawaja, Inspector General Sindh, ordered actions taking notice of the incident and said that justice must be served to the Hindu labourer, media reported.

The accused constable Hassan Ali was arrested on the charges of torturing and injuring Gokal Das and an FIR has been filed under Sections 337 (bodily hurts), 504 (intentional insult) and 506(2) (extending threats to someone to kill him/her) of Pakistan Penal Code against the accused, police said.

Ali was posted in Ghotki district's Hayat Pitafi town.
