Islamic State claims responsibility for second Quetta attack that left 13 injured

On 13 August, the SITE intelligence group declared that the Islamic State (IS) militant group has claimed responsibility for the second terror attack that hit Quetta last week, leaving 13 people injured.

The Dawn quoted SITE's report, which said that the IS claimed the attack on its Telegram channel, al-Bayan Radio and Twitter.

The attack came days after a suicide bombing at a hospital on Monday killed over 70 people, mostly lawyers who had gathered to mourn the death of the president of the Balochistan Bar Association who was gunned earlier in the day.

The bombing was claimed by the Jamaatul Ahrar faction of the Pakistani Taliban and IS as well. However, reports suggest that it is unclear whose claim was more credible.

The region in the past few months is witnessing regular militant attacks, with IS militants struggling to gain a foothold in Pakistan, with competition from other extremist group like the Taliban.
