Australia Bushfire: Firefighter’s 19-month-old daughter wears father’s helmet at his funeral

A heartwrenching image has surfaced the Internet in which a 19-month-old girl wearing a helmet of her father who was killed while battling the bushfires in Australia.

Charlotte (19) bid final goodbye to her father Andrew O’Dwyer’s helmet along with a medal of honour at his funeral held on January 7. The image of the little girl with his late father’s belongings has left netizens in tears.


The heartbreaking images from Andrew’s funeral were shared by the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) on Facebook.

"Today we celebrate the life of firefighter Andrew O'Dwyer of the Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade. Andrew was tragically killed along with fellow member Geoff Keaton on December 19 while fighting the Green Wattle Fire near Buxton," the caption read.

 

In one of the photos shared on Facebook, Charlotte was seen standing next to his father’s coffin with a helmet on her head.

 

After seeing images, netizens were shattered and the internet flooded with several emotional pictures.

"A Daddy is always a little Girl’s Hero but one day she will truly understand why he wasn’t just her hero but all of us," wrote another user.

User also write, "Honestly looked like a nice, kind hearted person and it’s so sad to see this happen to someone fighting for such a great country! R.I.P Andrew. And thank you for fighting for our safety. My deepest condolences to the families that have lost so much in such a tragic time. And especially yours. I speak for every person I know when I say thank you. Truly."

Another comment reads, "This is so sad...what a loss. Brave little girl lots of love to you and the family :( she won't remember her dad but such a poignant photo."

As per CNN reports, the 36-year-old Andrew and his colleague Geoffrey Keaton were killed on December 19 in Australia bushfire when a burnt tree fell on their fire truck.

Meanwhile, the wildfire in Australia has killed over billions of animals and insects.
