Nation celebrates 70th Independence Day

The entire nation is celebrating the 70th Independence Day on 15 August, 2016. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from Red Fort, New Delhi. Several events and activities have been organised in the run up to the Independence Day Celebrations across the country.

President Pranab Mukherjee, in his address to the nation on Sunday night, called out for firm action against the attacks on Dalits and minorities.

Stop sending terrorists, India tells Pakistan

Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain, on Sunday, said the country will continue to support Kashmiris in their bid for 'freedom'. In his Independence Day speech at Islamabad, Pakistan proposed to send supplies to the victims of‎ violence in J&K. Rejecting the offer, India said that Pakistan has already exported enough terrorism to the Indian state.

Pakisan's statement has fuelled the diplomatic row between the two nations, with Indian officials described the statement as highly provocative.

Kashmir unrest: Youth killed in fresh clashes, death toll climbs to 58

One youth was killed and another critically injured after fresh clashes broke out today between protestors and security forces in Kashmir, taking the death toll to 58, even as curfew remained in force in some parts of Kashmir.
