If he is dead, then why did HBO release a poster of Jon Snow? Here's why

Everyone insists that Jon snow is dead. Time and again, the cast and crew of Game of Thrones, the show's producers and the man who plays the beloved character himself, Kit Harrington, have reiterated that Snow IS dead.

But fan sightings of Kit on sets, along with the ability of a certain priestess who can bring people back from the dead at his deathbed, has kept hope afloat.

The first episode of Season 6, which premieres on 24 April has a morbid title, 'And Now His Watch is Ended', which is basically the last line of the Night's Watch's funeral rites. Dang, HBO. Is he really dead? The production house has been saying so for so long, it's literally causing ears to bleed in frustration now. So why then did they decide to release a poster of a dead man for their upcoming season?

If he's no longer in the show, where's the need to put him on the promotional posters?

The answer will blow your mind and make you angry at the same time.

The answer is plain and simple manipulation. Speaking to Variety, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo, said: "I think when we looked at the marketing at that point, the noise, the volume, the frequency with which the Jon Snow question was being asked, and the response to his death in Season 5 was so palpable. To ignore that seemed somehow silly."

Countering claims of 'lying' to grab eyeballs, he said: "It generated enormous interest in a number of ways, but ... we take this show way too seriously and our viewers way too seriously to ever toy with them. I think it was really our intention to remind them - you have to come back."

The thing is, the fans would have come back anyway. With so many things happening in the show at once, how could one not? But does that make this indirect manipulation okay, IF indeed Snow isn't coming back?

Ugh HBO. Not cool. Not cool at all.
