Pratyusha Banerjee death: Boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh booked for abetment of suicide

In the latest development in Pratyusha Banerjee's alleged suicide case, her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh has been booked for abetment of suicide by the Mumbai police. Rahul has been booked under Section 306 and Section 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As per the IPC, Section 306 attributes to the abetment of suicide and states that if any person commits suicide, whoever abets the commission of such suicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.

Section 504 attributes to intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and states that whoever intentionally insults, and thereby gives provocation to any person, intending or knowing it to be likely that such provocation will cause him to break the public peace, or to commit any other offence, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

Earlier, the actor-producer was admitted to the hospital following a mental health issue. His father claimed that Rahul was in a state of shock and was constantly saying that Pratyusha was "calling" him.

Many of Pratyusha's friends have claimed that her relationship with Rahul Raj was a tumultuous one. They are of the opinion that it is unacceptable on Rahul's part to have not been present at the hospital when Pratyusha was declared dead.

Police had questioned Rahul on Saturday and Sunday. He fell on Sunday itself and was admitted to the hospital. He is still under hospitalisation.

The popular telly face Pratyusha Banerjee was found dead in her home in Goregaon on Friday evening, after which she was taken to Kokilaben Hospital, where she was declared dead.
