Revealed! This is when the Apple iPhone SE will be available in India

At the Cupertino event, tech giant Apple unveiled iPhone SE, its cheapest iPhone to date.

The starting price of the latest iPhone is Rs 39,000 for the 1GB model. Apple says that the iPhone SE will start selling in India starting early April. This is definitely good news as Apple now considers India an important market and is keen on making the device available for purchase as soon as possible.

With 'SE'standing for 'special edition', the 4-inch smartphone aims to cater to the mid-segment smartphone market, which offers premium specifications at a lower price. The iPhone SE has features similar to that of an iPhone 6s, but its design bears a stark resemblance to iPhone 5s - the company's last 4-inch iPhone.

The iPhone SE comes in all the colour variants introduced with iPhone 6s, including the rose gold.

The design of iPhone SE is similar to iPhone 6s with rounded edges on the top and bottom. Below are other features:

  • iPhone SE features the iPhone 6s' Apple A9 SoC
  • M9 motion coprocessor
  • 12-megapixel iSight (rear) camera with 4K video support
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • Improved Wi-Fi and LTE
  • New microphones
  • Apple Pay support with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor

Apple has priced the iPhone SE 16GB at $399, while the 64GB variant is priced at $499. The new iPhone will go on sale on 31 March, and will be available in 100 countries by May.
