Hike Messenger, India's home grown messaging platform, has announced launch of beta version video calling feature for its users.
First announced in September, the feature will be available to all the Android users of the app by the end of this week.
It works on a single tap, which is integrated into chat threads with friends. The company claims that the feature works fine under challenging network conditions including 2G.
The feature also allows users to view a live video preview of the caller before answering the call. The company will be rolling out the iOS version soon.
To use video calling on Hike, one has to follow few simple steps listed below.
1. Download Hike Messenger, if you don't have it OR update Hike Messenger if you haven't updated it since September.
2.Select the chat thread of a friend you want to connect with.
3. Just tap on the call button on the top right that prompts you to further select Voice or Video and start off your call.
Whatsapp has also started rolling out video calling features for some of its users on Android. The feature appears to be beta exclusive, available to selected few.
Hike had launched one-on-one and group audio calls in September 2015. The company said that 40 billion messages are exchanged per month among Hike users.
