AIDMK manifesto: Generous Jayalalithaa showers sops on Tamil Nadu

With 11 days to go for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has unveiled the AIDMK manifesto. The CM released the manifesto in an election rally in Perundurai, where Periyar was born. The manifesto lists a number of freebies and sops for the voters. Here are the highlights: Some of the major sops include Rs 40,000 crore loans for farmers in 2016-21. All ration card holders have been promised free mobile phones. The government has said it will not introduce FDI in retail. For the youth of the state, the AIADMK has vowed to hand out subsidised mopeds for young girls while free laptops with an internet connection have been promised for students of Class 10 and 12. The party has also said it will give gold coin to each soon-to-be-bride. Temples of local deities will be given a grant of Rs 1 lakh, The Hindu reported.Tamil Nadu goes to polls on 16 May.
