World T20: Pakistan suffer injury blow; Hafeez, Riaz doubtful for New Zealand clash

Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz and batsman Mohammad Hafeez are in doubt to play the must-win World T20 match against unbeaten New Zealand due to their respective injuries. Hafeez has been suffering from a pain in the right knee while Riaz was hit by a ball during the practice session, Dawn reported.

Reflecting on the news, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had confirmed that the left-arm bowler was hospitalised and later given clearance. The board added that Riaz would be allowed to play in the upcoming match only after proving his fitness.

The PCB further stated that Hafeez had been complaining of knee pain from the last two days, adding that it was unlikely for him to feature in the match against the Kane Williamson-led side.

Pakistan have gained two points in the Group B table after claiming a 55-run win over Bangladesh in their campaign opener at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The Shahid Afridi-led side, which recently suffered a defeat against arch-rival India, need to win the match against New Zealand if they want to keep alive their hopes of clinching the trophy.

The two sides will lock horns at the Punjab Cricket Stadium in Mohali this evening.
