World T20: Latest standings from Group A as rain causes Ireland to exit the tournament

It was a cruel, cruel day for two teams in Group A of the qualifiers of the ICC World T20. For little fault of theirs, Ireland and Netherlands will have no further part to play in the tournament as both matches scheduled for the day were rained out.

Points shared by all teams mean that Ireland and Netherlands are on one point each, winless in the tournament. Oman will play Bangladesh in the next match to decide who qualifies for the next stage.

But for the other two teams, days like these would make the higher officials in the ICC think why associate nations do not have more opportunities to prove themselves by playing more matches.

Only 8 overs were played between Bangladesh and Ireland in a match that was already reduced to 12 overs due to rain earlier. At the end of 8 overs, the scoreboard read 94-2 to Bangladesh, a commanding position that would have made for an interesting game of cricket.
