Sexual harassment allegations against national hockey captain

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 14 February 2017, 5:33 IST

National hockey team captain Sardar Singh is the subject of a sexual harassment case filed in Ludhiana by an international hockey player of Indian origin, reports The Indian Express. The woman said in her complaint that she had met Singh at the London Olympics and had been engaged to him ever since, but that over the past few months, he "mentally, physically and emotionally tortured" her. She also said that Singh forced her to abort their child in 2015 and refused to marry her.

While no FIR has been registered as yet, Ludhiana Police Commissioner P S Umranangal said that the complaint is being verified.

The woman told The Indian Express that Singh had blackmailed her to abort the child. "We got engaged but in 2015 I got pregnant. He told me to abort the child, which I did against my wishes and without getting support from anyone," she said. "He has been ignoring me and has refused to marry me after that incident. He has harassed me emotionally, physically and mentally."

She added that she had filed the written complaint on the advice of Indian High Commission officials in her country. She also alleged that Singh had assaulted her during the World Hockey League in Antwerp last year, and she had called the police there.
