No robe of honour at Golden Temple for gay rights-promoting Ontario premier

When Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne visits the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Sunday, she will not be given the siropa (robe of honour) usually given to visiting dignitaries. That's because she is a lesbian and promotes same-sex marriages, which the Sikh Akal Takht opposes, reports the Hindustan Times.

Canadian Sikhs have long opposed Wynne's pro-gay policies. Though her visit to the Golden Temple as part of a 10-day business trip to India is apparently a way to woo Sikhs in Canada, it seems unlikely to succeed given that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will not present her with a siropa.

Canadian Sikhs last year protested Wynne's introduction of a sex education curriculum in schools that they said was age-inappropriate and promoted gay relationships. Wynne also passed a law that removes the names of mother and father from all government forms to cut down red tape for same-sex couples.

In 2014, she also insisted that the turban-wearing Sikhs had to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers.
