Drop everything and watch PornHub. If you want to save whales, that is

If you are a closet environmentalist but are too much of an office slave to help, or are too broke to donate, know that you still can do your bit. By watching porn.

That's right. PornHub has come up with what is indisputably the most genius way to 'save the whales' this World Whale Day i.e. 13 February. All you need to do is find a dark, quiet corner and stream the choicest porn videos on their website and you'll make a whale's day.

Scaling up

So, for every 2,000 videos viewed on the website between 8 and 29 February, PornHub will donate one cent to The Moclips Cetological Society (MCS) which is a 1969 established Washington-based non-profit run to conserve whales.

And no, one cent isn't a paltry sum given the mammoth population that loves its share of good ol' porn time. Chew on this: At the time of writing this article, the counter at the bottom of the philanthropic PornHub page stands at a whopping 1,211,562,203. That's more than $6,000 in terms of donation money already. Phew.

It's fun to refresh the page. The number goes up every second. But you can do better than just a refresh.

Now, if the world were to continue watching their fave videos at this rate, within the week, PornHub could potentially donate a fortune. This is based on the assumption that if in five days (8-12 February) they could donate 6K, in the remaining 17 days they can easily match a mad sum of $50,000 or more.

"We're now asking our community to turn their attention to-and help save-a different type of blowhole, one that belongs to a majestic species that once swelled in numbers throughout the oceans before commercial industries initiated their demise," PornHub Vice President Corey Price mentioned in a statement about the initiative.

Meanwhile, MCS president Ken Balcomb made a valid point that connected the dots all too well. "Humans are not the only mammals that engage in sexual activities for reasons other than procreation. Cetaceans - whales, dolphins and porpoises - are very sexual animals and have evolved a variety of fascinating social life histories beyond simple procreation," said Balcomb, in the same statement.

Sharing the load

Remember that time everyone on F.R.I.E.N.D.S. thought Chandler was into shark porn? Don't worry, you wouldn't have to find out much of what that's like.

This video watching exercise isn't limited to any genre and we are definitely not objectifying them whales here. But because we'd like you to be a judicious donor, try watching short videos and keep the variety coming. Because the counter is counting by the numbers, and not by the hours.

While adult entertainment may not seem like the best channel to take an environmental concern seriously, you'd be surprised to learn that PornHub Cares has been at it for a while. Right from breast and testicular cancer awareness to a proper PornHub Cares scholarship, the sex video website seems to have grown a rock solid... conscience.

So what are you waiting for? Go, Free Willie.
