Catch News Fact Finder: Know the reality about viral post claiming COVID-19 vaccine already invented in 2001

Coronavirus has engulfed over five million people across the world while the global economy has come to a grinding halt. However, doctors and researchers are burning the midnight oil to invent the vaccine of the contagious virus.

Amid COVID-19 outbreak, fake news has been circulated across the social media platform which has heightened the fear among people and developed several misconceptions about the disease. Lately, a post has been widely shared on social media which claimed that corona vaccines has already been invented in 2001, which means 19 years ago.


 

Our Catch New Fact Finder team has cross-checked the claims of the viral post that was shared on social media. Let's have a look at...

Viral Post Claims:

“Now this was 2001 tell me why 19 years later they say there is no vaccine share before they take it down,” the post shared with a caption.

Several people have shared this post and raised questions about the vaccine whether it’s real or fake because it also had the label of canine coronavirus vaccine.

However, it has been seen often that social media users have shared old photos and videos without checking the facts and circulated fake news without any fear.

The same thing has happened with this post too. During the investigation, our fact check team has found that viral post is fake. The medicine which showed in the picture is for dogs not for humans. Also, it has no connection with coronavirus pandemic treatment.

Interestingly, the fake post has been shared over 31K times and over 1k people have liked the post.

Even our other fact check team of Rajasthan Patrika has also investigated about the medicine shown in the post. They found that the medicine is Nobivac Canine 1-Cv vaccine which is sold by its subsidiary of Merck & Co and it is used for the treatment of dogs.

Hence, the vaccine is used to protect dogs from the Canine Coronavirus or CCV.

Veterinary company VCA hospital also said that the Canine coronavirus disease, also known as CCOV, is commonly found in dogs or puppies. However, the canine coronavirus is usually short-lived in dogs but the animal suffers from stomach problems for a few days. The hospital official further said that the canine coronavirus is not a virus like SARS-COV-W, which causes coronavirus. CCOV causes gastrointestinal problems in dogs.

Reality about Viral Corona Vaccine:

 

Meanwhile, no COVID-19 vaccine has been invented yet. However, several clinical trials have been going on in various countries. Notably, the coronavirus is unknown when it was found in Wuhan, China till December 2019.

According to the Centres for Diseases Control and Prevention, the human coronavirus was identified in the mid-1960s.

Moreover, it is cleared that the medicine shown in the viral post is for dogs not for the treatment of coronavirus. Hence, the post is fake.
