With Pulimurugan, Drishyam and Oppam, Mohanlal is now India's first actor to have top 3 industry grossers

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is undoubtedly one of the most sought after actors in India. The four-time national award winner started his acting career at the age of 18 in an unreleased filmitled Thiranottam. He went to act in over 300-plus Malayalam films and most of them have been Box Office blockbusters. According to him, there is no language barrier when it comes to acting and the actor has proved his acting prowess in Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films as well.

And now, after completing nearly four decades of his acting career, Mohanlal has set an all-India record, which is not only tough to beat but impossible to chase. Yes, Malayalam cinema's own Lalettan is now India's first actor to have all-time top three industry grossers in his kitty. Pulimurugan, Drishyam, and Oppam are the all-time top three blockbusters of Malayalam industry. Interestingly, all of them starred Mohanlal in the titular role with Pulimurugan and Oppam still running to packed houses at the Box Office.

Have a look at the all-time top three blockbusters of Malayalam Cinema:

1) Pulimurugan

Mohanlal's 2016 Dusshera blockbuster, Pulimurugan is the all-time highest grosser of Malayalam cinema. The film, which had released on 7 October to a fantastic response, has so far grossed Rs. 110 crore at the Box Office worldwide. The film has also emerged as the first Rs. 100 crore Malayalam grosser which is a remarkable feat considering that Malayalam films normally release in less than 1,000 screens worldwide. Looking at the current hype and solid advance booking worldwide, Pulimurugan mighttouch the Rs. 150 crore mark at the Box Office. Directed by Vysakh and produced by Tomichan Mulakuppadam, Pulimurugan also stars Bengali actress Kamalini Mukherjee, Telugu actor Jagapati Babu and Tamil actress Namitha.

2) Drishyam

Mohanlal's 2013 Christmas blockbuster, Drishyam is touted as a landmark film in Indian cinema. The content of the film was so strong that it was later remade in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. Commendably, all the remakes were met with success. The Jeethu Joseph thriller has raked in Rs. 75 crore at the Box Office to become the first Malayalam film to do so. Interestingly, Jeethu Joseph's upcoming film marks the acting debut of Rajavinte Makan, Pranav Mohanlal.

3) Oppam

Mohanlal's first Malayalam release of 2016, Oppam, was released on 8 September, Onam. The film also marks the 30th collaboration between Malayalam superstar and his favorite director Priyadarshan. At the end of its two-month theatrical release, Oppam minted Rs. 61 crore at the Box Office to become the third biggest blockbuster of Malayalam cinema. The film had every chance to cross the Rs. 75 crore mark, but the sudden release of another Mohanlal starrer, Pulimurugan, has affected its business at the Box Office.
