Last Friday saw the release of the Tamil version of MS Dhoni : The Untold Story, along with its original version, in Hindi.
Surprisingly, both versions opened to an earth-shattering response in its opening weekend. A good opening weekend was always on cards, but the kind of response the MS Dhoni biopic received at the Tamil Nadu Box Office surprised the entire Tamil film fraternity.
The Tamil version of the film was released on 202 screens while the Hindi MS Dhoni biopic had 23 screens on its opening weekend at the Tamil Nadu Box Office. But the biopic of India's current ODI - T20 captain, MS Dhoni has minted a record breaking Rs 7 crore on its opening weekend at the Tamil Nadu Box Office.
Additionally, the opening weekend numbers of Bollywood's version in Chennai has surpassed the top Bollywood opener of 2016, Salman Khan-starrer Sultan at the Chennai Box Office. The film recorded 95% occupancy at Chennai's cinemas by raking in more than Rs 1.25 crore from 3-days of its theatrical release. The 5-day-long weekend of Salman Khan's Sultan upon its release was Rs 1.22 at the Chennai Box Office.
MS Dhoni is holding exceptionally well over the weekdays as well. It will be interesting to see how the film performs in its second weekend with stiff competition from upcoming Dusshera releases, Siva Karthikeyan-starrer Remo and Vijay Sethupathi's Rekka.
