Yesterday saw the release of one the most-awaited Telugu films of 2016, the Pawan Kalyan starrer Sardaar Gabbar Singh. Directed by KS Ravindra and produced by Pawan Kalyan, Sharath Maraar and Sunil Lulla - under their banners Pawan Kalyan Creative Works, Northstar Entertainment and Eros International - the film is a sequel to the 2012 blockbuster, Gabbar Singh.

While one always expected a stellar opening for Sardaar Gabbar Singh, it set the Box Office on fire with an earth shattering opening of Rs 21 crore. Reportedly, the film has benefited the most from Andhra Pradesh. It has collected Rs 1.52 crore at Krishna, Rs 51 lakh at Kakinada, Rs 2 lakh at Nagari, Rs 4 lakh at Puttur, Rs 6 crore at Nizam, Rs 4. 56 crore at Godaveri, Rs 2.47 crore at Guntur and nearly Rs 1 crore at Nellore.

Sardaar Gabbar Singh has broken the second ever opening day collection of Rs 15 crore set by Mahesh Babu’s Srimanthudu. It missed out on breaking Bahubali: The Beginnning’s record of Rs 26 crore by Rs 5 crore. The craze for the sequel and Pawan Kalyan’s stardom has obviously worked in the film's favour.

However, the film has opened to negative reviews from critics as well the audience. It is expected to gain momentum till the weekend. It will be interesting to see how it performs on weekdays starting Monday.
