Chennai is experiencing the worst floods in 100 years. And help has been pouring in from all corners for the crisis-hit city; while some members of the southern film industry have been using the wide reach they enjoy on social media to come to the rescue of stranded citizens, some are providing monetary relief.
Actor Siddharth aggressively used Twitter to give wings to his rescue mission. He constantly tweeted the routes his rescue vehicles were taking and areas where his people were distributing food. Through the day he kept tweeting helpline numbers.
He reached out to his friends to help by any means possible and also adviced stranded people about the dos and donts during such a crisis situation.

While Siddharth took the help of social media, actors like Rajnikanth and NTR helped by making financial contributions to the victims. Rajnikanth made a donation of Rs 10 lakh to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund and NTR donated Rs 10 lakh to the families affected by the rains. The list goes on as other actors too responded similarly.
This is what these actors contributed:
- Kalyan Ram - Rs 5 Lakh
- Varun Tej - Rs 3 Lakh
- Sampoornesh Babu - Rs 50,000
- Ravi Teja - Rs 5 Lakh
- Mahesh Babu - Rs 10 Lakh
Many movie releases have been postponed and theatres are being used to provide shelter to the stranded citizens. Rajnikanth opened up his Kalyana Mandapam to provide food and shelter to affected families.
Seems like our reel heroes have turned real heroes for today.
