Sairat records highest opening week of all time in Marathi cinema

Nagraj Manjule's Sairat is on a record-breaking spree at the Box-Office as the film raked in Rs 25.50 crore in its opening week thus being the highest ever for a Marathi film.

The movie, which opened with almost 100 per cent occupancy in almost all the centres in Maharashtra, in its opening weekend recorded occupancy close to 75 per cent on the weekdays. The film is already the fourth highest grossing Marathi film and is inching close to surpass Natsamrat to be the highest grossing Marathi film of all time.

List of top all time Marathi grossers:

  • Natsamrat: 36 crore
  • Lai Bhaari (2014): 32 crore
  • Time Pass 2 (2015): 31 crore
  • Sairat (2016): 25.50 crore and counting
  • Duniyadaari: 25 crore

The film is running to packed houses in over 400 screens in Maharashtra. What is interesting to note here is the fact that the film has shattered all records despite being the debut film for lead actors, Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru.
