Kollywood Box Office: Thundorous opening for Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum, Pichaikkaran is a hit!

Last Fiday was crowded with the release of six Tamil films, Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum, Aviyal, Maapillai Singam, Natpathigaram 79, Enna Pidichiruku and Kodai Mazhai. However, it was only Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum which emerged a clean success at the Box Office.

  • Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum (Ka Ka Po)

Nalan Kumarasamy's second directorial venture Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum opened to a very good response at the ticket window. The director retained his Soodhu Kavvum hero Vijay Sethupathy as the main lead of the film, which also marks the Kollywood debut of actress Madonna Sebastian, Malayalam film Premam fame. The film has collected a healthy Rs 8 crore on its opening weekend and has become the highest opening weekend ever for Vijay Sethupathy. The successful opening and positive reviews ensured a hat trick of success for lead actor Vijay Sethupathy as his last two films, Naanum Rowdydhaan and Sethupathi were also box office hits.

  • Pichaikkaran

The Vijay Antony - Santa Titus starrer Pichaikkaran continued its good run at the Box Office with collections of around Rs 2 crore in its second weekend. The film is being liked by family audiences for its emotional content and exemplary acting. Written and directed by Sasi, Pichaikkaran has collected Rs 11 crore so far and emerged a hit at the box office.

  • Mapla Singham

Rajasekhar's Mapla Singham opened to an average start at the box office. The film has collected Rs 1.75 crore in its opening weekend, which is quite decent considering the fact that a pirated version of film was leaked online months before release. The Vimal - Anjali starrer should post a healthy total in the coming days to reach the profit zone.

Karthika Subbaraj's second anthology of short films, Aviyal opened to a mixed response in theatres. The film is written and directed by six directors including Alphonse Putharen, Shameer Sultan, Mohit Mehra, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Guru Smaran. The film stars Nivin Pauly, Bobby Simha, Arjunan Nandakumar and Amrutha Srinivasan. The film collected around Rs 50 lakh in its opening weekend.

  • Sethupathi

Vijay Sethupathy's hit film Sethupathy completed 25 days at the Box Office. The film, now in its fourth weekend, has performed better than last Friday releases Natpathigaram 79, Enna Pidichiruku & Kodai Mazhai. The total collections of the Vijay Sethupathy starrer after the fourth weekend is Rs 16 crore.
