Kerala Box Office: Thalapathy Vijay's Mersal had a fantastic day 1, emerges second all-time highest opener

Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay's Mersal set the Kerala Box Office on fire by setting record break collections on its opening day. The action entertainer, which had released in 295 screens across the cinemas of Kerala, registered nearly 100 percent occupancy throughout its opening day.

A huge opening was always on the cards as 150 fans shows were screened apart from the regular shows on day 1. The Thalapathy Vijay starrer had minted a massive Rs. 6.11 crore on its opening day at the Kerala Box Office. Mersal also emerged as the all-time second biggest opener in Kerala after SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2. The Prabhas-Anushka Shetty blockbuster had minted Rs. 6.27 crore at the Kerala Box Office on day 1.

Global United Media, who earlier released The Jungle Book and the Baahubali series in Kerala, distributed Mersal as well.

Mersal stars Vijay in triple roles and also marks his second collaboration with Atlee, the director of his 2016 blockbuster Theri.
